paint me a picture a picture of love where black lines a blue heart and rouge for the blood and make it life-size abstract and confused the colours that bleed from your eyes is a song called the blues and so stands a statue a soldier unknown whose pain lies forgotten yet remembered in stone and it stands life-size abstract and confused and the rain that will fall from its eyes is a song called the blues so make it life-size abstract and confused the colours that fall from this rhyme is a song called the blues

two o'clock in the morning crawling on her knees vixen jail bait steals her fathers keys we roll his old truck down the back track through the rusting gate she slipped the key in the slot when she felt it was safe i felt the engine come alive and drove on beneath those southern skies barefoot she led me to a secret creek dived in naked silent and sleek i watched her long limbs wet and glistening as through the shadows she swims i heard her voice in the dark call out it's really nice when your in so i dived deep towards her cries and surfaced beneath those southern skies I surfaced..... but the hands of time they race across this face on my wrist and soon you'll go i know before it's late and your missed and i will always remember the girl i met she gave me something this heart can't forget by the blue light of a new day we drove on home took the long way past the places of where she had grown down the avenues past the old school i was being led as the small town stirred the sky was glowing red i kissed the tears from her eyes and left her beneath those southern i kissed the tears from her eyes and left her beneath those southern skies

The Tomcat on the garden wall Starts up his nightly call Silhouetted by the moon He prowls and growls And howls his tune But it's eight down one to go His lives are slipping fast While the night seems so slow Without you Dog-eared tattered and torn He prowls the night until the dawn Searching for a lover tonight To hold him tight Who might just keep him warm But it's eight down one to go The hours are slipping fast While the night seems so slow So baby open your eyes And drawer those blinds Cause outside you'll find That we're cold and lonely Out on the limb So open your heart And let us in. The Tomcat on the garden wall Starts up his nightly call.

Sunflower 04:03
Well its sad to see you so low Thinking how you used to grow As you tried to touch the sky Well you failed but still the same I never find any blame 'Cos I know how hard you tried. The growing season is so short But those that stand out Are first to be caught But I never thought i'd see All your beauty gone to seed Like a Sunflower Like a Sunflower You were some flower You were some flower And how each day I feel such guilt I have to say I watched you wilt Full knowing what it means But who knows what we'll find When we leave our roots behind And fall victim to all our dreams You lived a life of pleasure and pain You had your face in the sun But your roots in the rain But I'd never thought I'd see All your beauty gone to seed Like a Sunflower Like a Sunflower You were some flower You were some flower Yes you were You grew for me A little too fast Wild and free Sunflower Sunflower

here i stand high on the brow protecting land turned by the plough the scattered seed black with the crows the driven rain on an east wind blows arms outstretched empty and torn the hollow man waits for the dawn and all the straw lain at my feet was once my heart that fell from my sleeve but time is the giver the taker and the thief times the colours falling with the leaves and is there someone out there with some love they could share to mend this scarecrows heart for with each lonely day i start to decay i feel like i'm falling apart is there someone out there with some love they can share and i have watched the thistles and the thorns devour the names on a church yards fallen stones the weather vane once free in the wind now stuck fast with the rust in it's hinge and time are the hands waving from the dial and time is the crying of a new-born child and is there someone out there with some love they could share to mend this scarecrows heart for with each lonely day i start to decay i feel like i'm falling apart is there someone out there with some love they can share with a scarecrow heart with a scarecrow heart

Souvenir 03:38
i used to write love songs but not anymore the rhymes and the reasons paper on the floor and all of those pages that i've tried to turn cast shadows on my wall as they burn so cold the flames of yesteryear i used to take pictures and put them in a book so if i got lonely i'd only need to take one look but all of those memories they're fading away as the colours of spring fade to grey and my only souvenir my lonely souvenir is this song you will never hear i used to write love songs a long time gone

about

I don't have to tell you how good a guitarist Pat is, so let the album speak for its self, there are some intriguing passages and tunings. A great album and everybody should have it in their collection
Bert Jansch

Pat Orchard commands enormous respect from his fellow musicians; he's an astonishingly accomplished guitarist, a very real and believable singer and in my opinion a songwriter of almost unparalleled sensitivity. 'Southern Skies' is a record of almost startling insight and authenticity, and yet the stranger grows stranger inside.
Ptolemaic Terrascope

Imagine the winsome world of Nick Drake enhanced by the sonic tapestries of John Martyn... and you'd not be too far of the mark
Classic Rock.

Devon-born Orchard is a vulnerable but very compelling singer-songwriter in the mould of the late lamented Nick Drake.

Ptolemaic Terrascope ... full review

n-born Orchard is a vulnerable but very compelling singer-songwriter in the mould of the late lamented Nick Drake. He delivers his perceptive little vignettes of urban existence with a good deal of style and subtle innovation. 'Southern Skies' also represents Pat's first CD release on a nationally distributed label, and I hope it wont be the last.
ROCK PRESS UK

Pat is a very talented guitarist who usually plays solo with his acoustic guitar, which he did last night. The sound he produced was amazing, with a little echo and some well-timed finger tapping on the side of the guitar it sounded like he had someone playing percussion with him. The lyrics to the songs have real meaning too…if ever you have the chance to see him play I would strongly recommend it.
FM

Pat Orchard is one of the rising stars of the new acoustic scene. There is, about his music, a hint of John Martyn. Pat's trademarks are strong, relevant, meaningful lyrics, excellent guitar playing and a voice blessed with a gentle sensuality…Pat Orchard is a performer whose work really should be heard.
